a 17th century (1653-1692) English dramatist. In 1684 he was declared insane and spent the next five years in Bedlam. During this time he declared “They called me mad, and I called them mad, and damn
them, they outvoted me” (Kent, 2003), a quotation that could just as easily be
used by patients today.
